Astrid Tostmann Letters - The Executive Finder

Values

The current change in values for executives signifies a loss of values. New values need to be discovered or defined. The development of new technologies and ongoing changes are putting different demands on executives today in order to be successful.

At the same time, subsequent generations are socialized differently. Different ideas of leadership, management and corporate culture are leading to a different approach to establishing leadership skills.

Among other things, we are looking for:

  • Flexibility
  • Adaptability
  • Willingness to acquire technological knowledge
  • Practicing a culture of error
  • Transparent communication
  • Team oriented instead of hierarchical thinking
  • Empathy

Today, the decision to commit to a company is made in a different way:

  • Possibility of creative freedom
  • Gaining more scope for responsibility
  • Meaningfulness of the task(s)
  • Transparency in dealing with one another
  • Promotion
  • Equality of opportunity

Collective intelligence
What counts for managers today: questioning decisions, continuous exchange and involvement in decision-making processes. No solo efforts by virtue of authority; authenticity and honesty are required. The journey is the goal.

Empathy
Remote work creates distance. How do you still achieve closeness as a manager? What does empathy mean in concrete terms?

  • Recruiting is about finding the right person.
  • Coaching is fundamentally about the question: Do you want to develop further?
  • Workshops could lead to a goal to successfully accompany several generations into collaboration.

In each specific case, I take a holistic view: every assignment has different framework conditions that need to be considered carefully.
